The GP Extended Hours service is designed to provide patients with appointments outside core general practice hours for routine care and is available:


Monday  7.30am - 08.00am,  Tuesday 07.30am - 08.00am and 18.30pm - 19.30pm

You can make an appointment with the Practice Nurse or Healthcare Assistant for a Face to Face consultation or a Telephone Consultation


Please note this is not a drop-in service

Change of Out of Hours Provider ( posted on May 31, 2019 )

From 1st July 2019, The Out of Hours Provider for all patients of Newholme Surgery, will be changing from St Helens Rota to Primary Care 24 (PC24). 

Patients who require medical advice Out of Hours will speak to NHS111 for initial help and advice.

Patients who need to be seen by a clinician will still be given an appointment or a home visit (if they are housebound).  The new service will still have the ability to issue urgent prescriptions when & where needed, as well as book appointments at the St Helens Urgent Treatment Centre, offer GP extended access appointments at one of the 3 hubs in the st.helens borough, along with the ability to link patients into other appropriate services.


The change is due to contractual changes in the way your practice provides Out of Hours and, in keeping with the national direction of travel to implement NHS111.


NHS St Helens CCG has commissioned Primary Care 24 (PC24) on behalf of Newholme Surgery, to deliver Out of Hours services.  You will continue to receive a safe, high quality service.


If you need medical advice outside of normal surgery opening hours you can still call the practice number where you will be directed automatically to NHS111 or you can call NHS111 directly.  You can phone 111, 24 hours a day 365 days a year, to reach a full range of local health services, incluiding out of hours doctors, community nurses, emergency dental care and late night opening chemists etc. 


Calls from landlines and mobiles are FREE.

If you're a patient at Newholme Surgery, you can now download and use the new NHS App, a simple and secure way to access a range of NHS services on your smartphone or tablet.


You can use the NHS App to check your symptoms and get instant advice, book appointments, order repeat prescriptions, view your GP medical history and more.


If you already use patient access online tool you can continue to use it. You can use the NHS App as well.

 Following our CQC visit on 11th July 2017 we are very pleased to announce that the practice achieved the standard of GOOD in all the 5 domains:

Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive & Well-Led.

Register for Online Services


Our online service allows you to book or cancel appointments and to order repeat prescriptions. From 1st April 2015 you will be able to view your allergies and adverse reactions and also all your medication. In the future you will be able to access your test results, letters, and some consultations.

Contact the surgery to request a Patient Access registration letter. When you collect the letter from your practice, you'll need to take proof of identity (e.g. your driving licence or passport) with you. 


Once you have your Registration Letter go to https://patient.emisaccess.co.uk/ to set up you online account.


When patients are registering to use the service they should not use a shared email address. For example, if a husband and wife have separate accounts but use the same email address, both will see all online appointment booking confirmations and reminders for both accounts.


Please note: Patients are advised to read the Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions which are available on the site. By using Patient Access patients automatically indicate their acceptance of the Terms and Conditions.


There is also a Patient Access APP available FREE on Android an iOS Mobiles

CQC Statement Of Purpose ( posted on Mar 27, 2013 )

Newholme Surgery is now registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) under the Health & Social Care Act 2008.  As part of this registration we have now submitted the practice 'Statement of Purpose' which highlights the aims and objectives of the registration.  This document is a legally binding document with the CQC and is available on our website (in the documents section' and is also available in paper format which you can request at reception.
